J. Cole @ Mansion Nightclub

“Clap For Em…

I love living in Miami, but for a music junkie like me, it’s hard to hear about “secret shows”, and “guest appearances” in other cities by artists that I dig.   J. Cole is no exception. The hubby put me on to J. Cole about a year and a half ago, and sent me The Warm Up when it dropped.

Best thing I could say… “that kid is dope” *BBD voice*
So for the past year, he’s been performing here, there and everywhere, but I had YET to see him! (If he’s made an appearance in Miami in the past year more than once, please correct me!)

Thanks to the fact that his spotlight is getting brighter, I finally had an opportunity to go check him out live. At Mansion. Yes. The nightclub. Womp.

I don’t hate Mansion, but I pretty much despise going to clubs to see LIVE music. The show always starts late, half to the majority of people aren’t there to see the artist, there’s RARELY a live band in attendance, and the performance is guaranteed to be short. THIS was no exception.

The Mr. and I were determined as ever to go see J. Cole perform. Needless to say, the performance started a quarter past 2am, half the people there were like “Who is that!? Where is LeBron?!” (who had just made his big announcement a few hours earlier), No live band (Although DJ Effect WAS rockin’!), and he only performed 2.5 songs.

Just When You Thought No One Was Listening...

So I haven’t blogged in a while, much in part thanks to my janky ass computer, that wouldn’t allow me to do more than two things at once. Another in part to the fact that I’ve been SWAMPED with work, life, etc! I finally got a Mac. I also ran out of space to house all my pictures, videos and music, so I was forced to upgrade!

Now that I can comfortably upload and transfer anything on my new BFF, My posts will resume more efficiently...well at least as many times and I actually get to enjoy live music!

So...the point of today’s post...I have Google Analytics on every site I manage on the web, and I check the stats pretty regularly, especially the Traffic Sources to see where my readers were referred from (If you have a blog or website and don’t have GA, you’re really losing right now). And a good portion of the referrals come from the Miami New Times’ Music Blog Crossfade.

So I came across this little gem that I didn’t know about, that Crossfade’s editor, Arielle Castillo wrote about MIMH back in February...

“Musik Is My Hometown is a new local one-woman blog with great promise, posting pretty in-depth reviews and quick videos of mostly local hip-hop and R&B shows. Blogger Tanya promises ramped-up activity for 2010, and fills in a niche not really covered by too many other local blogs: soul! Yes, soul, as opposed to much soul-less commercial R&B. There are a ton of entries here from the weekly Soulcial party at Ginger Bay Cafe in Hollywood; the most recent is about "big hair, big voice" singer CeCe Teneal”

It made me smile!

Shout out to Arielle! (follow her on twitter!)

Thanks for reading. I enjoy sharing.

I have great things happing soon, so stay tuned!!

Love.
Peace.
