“Clap For Em…
I love living in Miami, but for a music junkie like me, it’s hard to hear about “secret shows”, and “guest appearances” in other cities by artists that I dig. J. Cole is no exception. The hubby put me on to J. Cole about a year and a half ago, and sent me The Warm Up when it dropped.
Best thing I could say… “that kid is dope” *BBD voice*
So for the past year, he’s been performing here, there and everywhere, but I had YET to see him! (If he’s made an appearance in Miami in the past year more than once, please correct me!)
Thanks to the fact that his spotlight is getting brighter, I finally had an opportunity to go check him out live. At Mansion. Yes. The nightclub. Womp.
I don’t hate Mansion, but I pretty much despise going to clubs to see LIVE music. The show always starts late, half to the majority of people aren’t there to see the artist, there’s RARELY a live band in attendance, and the performance is guaranteed to be short. THIS was no exception.
The Mr. and I were determined as ever to go see J. Cole perform. Needless to say, the performance started a quarter past 2am, half the people there were like “Who is that!? Where is LeBron?!” (who had just made his big announcement a few hours earlier), No live band (Although DJ Effect WAS rockin’!), and he only performed 2.5 songs.
But don’t get it twisted…I loved ever last of the 10 minutes he was on stage! Lol
He came out and performed “Who Dat” first. If I had my way, he would have come out and did all of The Warm Up, but I settled for “Lights Please” (which he seemed genuinely surprised that people were singing along with) and Jay’s second verse along with his own from “A Star is Born” …which is when the spacers in the crowd were like “ohhhhhh that’s who that is!” SMH.
Of what little I saw, I think he has more than just great potential. I’m really looking forward to what this kid’s gonna bring to the game. His storytelling reminds me a lot of a new millennium version of Nas and Slick Rick, so I’m hoping his album lives up to that.
Check out the pics and flicks.
Love.
Peace.
Music.

Love J.Cole he is hometown lol(Fayettenam,NC)!
Girl, if I had waited until after 2am to see Lil Man perform for 10 minutes, I would have been a bit salty! I haven't heard anything outside of "Who Dat" but I am going to check out his other stuff. A "thumbs up" from you is definitely worth a "look-see"!
Thanks for sharing! :-)
